There are many good reasons for a league to affiliate with SCASA and to register its players with the US Adult Soccer Association (USASA) through SCASA, but the most important ones for the league and for its players are:
1.Access to USSF Referees. Certified USSF Referee Assignors will not assign Certified USSF Referees to non-sanctioned games (in this case sanctioned = affiliated). A referee when working a non-sanctioned game is NOT covered under liability or medical insurance.
2.Insurance certifications for facility use. Affiliated leagues can obtain a certificate of insurance from SCASA that they can submit to facility owners/operators (e.g. city, county, state recreation departments, school districts, private clubs). This is often a requirement in order to rent/use facilities.
3.Individual player medical insurance. By registering, an individual player receives supplemental accident insurance for injuries sustained during sanctioned games.
4.Participation in tournaments. Registered players with USASA player ID cards can play in sanctioned tournaments throughout the US, including a SC State Cup when held.
5.Soccer Development. Interested individuals can become active in the state, regional, and national organizations for the development and promotion of soccer. SCASA is the state Organizational Member of the US Soccer Federation (USSF) for adults in South Carolina.
The growth of organized soccer in South Carolina depends on affiliation. Through affiliation, we in the soccer community with growing numbers can present our need for more and better facilities to our local, city, county and state administrators. Furthermore, as we grow we can have an increasing voice on the national level.
